The best way to keep SPAM comments from getting “insane” is to use a plug in called – AKISMET. You can normally get for free, just search for AKISMET. It filters almost anything that looks “spammy”. Otherwise, yes, you can be stuck deleting hundreds of spam comments that have no value to anyone. Hope that helps.
